DNS-based Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB

Global traffic management delivered by DNS

DNS-based GSLB makes the inter-site decision: which available site should this user be sent to? Combine geographic routing and health monitoring to build resilient multi-site and multi-region architectures without deploying GSLB appliances at every location.

Geolocation routing

Direct DNS requests to an appropriate site based on the user’s geographic location.  Users in Europe can be directed to European infrastructure, while users in North America or APAC are directed to the appropriate regional locations.

Active / passive failover

Direct traffic to a primary site while health checks continuously monitor its availability.  If the primary site becomes unavailable, DNS responses automatically switch to a configured standby location. When service is restored, traffic can return according to your failover policy.

Active / active balancing

Distribute DNS responses across multiple active sites.  Health monitoring automatically removes an unavailable site from DNS responses and returns it when it becomes healthy again.

Global resilience without GSLB appliances at every site

Traditional appliance-based GSLB can require redundant devices at multiple locations, along with the infrastructure, connectivity and operational overhead required to maintain them.

 

DNS-based GSLB moves the inter-site routing decision onto Total Uptime’s distributed DNS infrastructure.

There are no GSLB appliances to deploy at each location and your global routing layer isn’t dependent on the connectivity of an individual data center.

 

This makes DNS-based GSLB particularly well suited to organizations operating across multiple data centers, clouds or geographic regions.
